About the event
HOO HOO HOO-HOOO!
Are you looking for something fun to do before super bowl weekend? Have you ever wanted to go on an "owl prowl"?
Join naturalist Michelle for the Waterman Center's Suberb-Owl Prowl! If we are lucky we might even hear owls or see animals hiding out in the darkness!
What is an "owl prowl"? An owl prowl is when you go out at night to attract and hopefully encounter an owl! This involves walking through the woods in silence in total darkness, on a clear moonlit night when owls are more active. Using call mimicry, we will attempt to attract any nearby owls to get a chance to hear or see them close-up!
Note: This program will take place in full darkness as much as possible, with only red light sources permitted. Colored light filters will be provided. The purpose of this program is to be as quiet as possible to increase our chances of encountering any owls in the area, and red light is the least disruptive to our eyes and to other animals.
Suitable for ages 12 and up.
Scheduling Note: In the event of a rainy, snowy, or windy night, the owl prowl will be postponed to Saturday, February 8th at the same time. Owls are not as active during precipitation or wind, so going out on a clear night gives us the best chance possible for encountering an owl.
What to bring:
Sturdy shoes, warm layers, a flashlight, and lots of patience.
$5/person for non-members and FREE for members
